Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe, or Harry Potter, has been growing up right in front of our eyes for years.  He was briliantly cast in the Harry Potter series and is a fine actor.  He has also appeared in a Broadway play called Equus which was in 2007.  The following is a collection of pictures of him through the years:

Veritaserum and Felix Felicis

Why is the handy truth potion Veritaserum not used more often? Especially in the Ministry of Magic! It seems like it would really come in handy to get people to tell the truth. I would think it was an important potion whose abilities would become very necessare when dealing with magical matters, wouldn't you? Why do you think Veritaserum isn't used very often?
Another handy potion mentioned in Harry Potter is Felix Felicis, also known as liquid luck. The potion makes the user extreamly lucky and makes it so that all their endeavors succeed. I don't understand why this potion is not used more often. If Harry had a drop of this every time he set out to destroy Voldemort, no one would've gotten hurt and he would've succeeded right away. I wonder why people don't try to use this potion more. Why do you think Felix Felicis isn't used very often?

My Page 743 Conspiracy Theory

It is my belief that the final battle between Harry and Voldemort is on page 743 of the last book, book seven, on purpose. I decided to call my realization the "Page 743 Conspiracy Theory." I believe it was on purpose because the number 7 is a reoccurring theme throughout the series and it is a rather significant number for multiple reasons as seen below.
  • 7 is significant in the series
  • 4+3=7, so page 743 is pretty much 77
  • 7 years of school in Hogwarts
  • 17 years old to be adult
  • 7 Weasly kids
  • 7 Quidditch players
  • 7 Horcruxes
  • On page 7 of the first book, Vernon Dursley's first mention of magic/Lilly Potter
  • On page 73 in book one it is said the something (the philosopher's/Sorcerer's stone) is in vault 713
  • Page 7 in book six the Prime Minister is learning about Voldemort's return
  • Seventh book dedication is "split seven ways"
  • Page 7, book 7 Voldemort says he must be the one to kill Harry and he borrows the wand from Lucius
  • page 437 in book 7 Potterwatch is first mentioned
  • Series ends on page 759-----> 7+5+9= 21---> 21 is a factor of 7 (3*7)
  • Page 77 book one first encounter with Draco Malfoy
  • There are 17 sickles in one gallon
  • It is stated that seven is the strongest number in the wizarding world
...The list goes on... (feel free to add to it in a comment)
What do you think about the conspiracy theory? Do you think it was a coincidence or that it was planned as a minor detail, or maybe that it was a big deal to J.K. Rowling to have the final showdown on page 743?

Neville: Too much or too little?

Spoiler Alert: Do not read the following if you have not finished the series and do not want any secrets to be revealed

Neville in the fourth movie

We all love Neville Longbottom(played by Mathew Lewis). He's the most goofy of all the Harry Potter characters, but is he really more important than we think? As we watch Neville transform from a shy character to a hero, we wonder about him and his innermost thoughts. In the fifth book, it is revealed that Neville was almost the Chosen One, almost the one who would save the wizarding world, almost Harry, or in his position, anyway. Though, Neville's survival would be dependent upon whether or not Neville's parents, who were tortured into insanity by Bellatrix Lestrange, or other family would sacrifice their life to protect their son. Neville seems to be under appreciated if you ask me: he is the person who knocked Voldemort's last leg out from under him. He, a true Griffindor, pulled the Sword of Griffindor out of the sorting hat and killed Nagini in order to follow out Harry's "final wish". This brings me to my next question, is Neville the real hero? Some may argue that Harry is the one who actually finished old Voldy off once and for all (book seven page 743) and who got rid of the horcruxes, while others may argue that it was a team effort to destroy the horcruxes and that anyone could've killed Voldemort with a simple Avada Kadavra spell, that Neville killed the most important, final horcrux. Or perhaps everyone who participated in the destruction of Voldemort's empire is a hero? I feel as though J.K. Rowling made Neville a smaller character on purpose so that we would not pay so much attention to him, or maybe so that we would be sure to look into him more deeply, or maybe I'm looking way far into it and he is the way he is just because that is how it happened when Rowling was writing the book. Side note: do you think Ron and Hermione are subconsciously attracted to fame and therefore would have been Neville's close friend had he been the Chosen One? Another two things I wondered about was if Neville ever found love. I always thought him and Luna Lovegood seemed like a good couple. I also wonder who hired Neville to be a teacher in Hogwarts, and in turn, who is the new headmaster? I will probably write about Neville again because I find him very interesting, and I feel as though we have only scratched the surface with the topic of Neville.

Please comment and tell me what you think about Neville and if you have any ideas about the questions I asked, then please do share!

Casting

Some of us, myself included, began reading Harry Potter after the movies started to come out (I believe I started reading the books after the second or third movie). If you didn't start reading the books until after the movies started to come out, then you have probably always pictured every character, such as Harry, Ron, and Hermione, as the actors portraying them. When I read the books, I to agreed with the casting that was done for the movies, especially in the first two movies (the actors looked exactly like the description of the characters). The actors fit the roles perfectly, and now, although they don't look quite as much as the book description as they used to, they are still perfect for the movies. I feel like they have become the Harry Potter roles to some extent. One thing I do wish would be a part of Daniel Radcliffe's Harry Potter role is that they would give Daniel Radcliffe green contacts so that his eyes would be the same color as his mother's, Lily, did. He could also have messier hair, but that's not as important. I do absolutely love all the actors chosen for the movies. My views could be tainted by the fact that I was introduced to HP through the movies. What do you think about the casting?

My Favorite Characters

Throughout the years we have fallen in love with Harry Potter characters, both in the books and in the movies. I know that when I was nine, I had a crush on Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, but mostly with Harry the character. Although I had a crush on Harry, he is not my favorite character. I can't exactly decide on a favorite character because I have quite a few favorites. One of my favorite characters is Bellatrix Lestrange. Clearly not because she's so kind or anything like that, but I think she is just so funny and interesting because of how sadistic she is. Helena Bonham-Carter plays her perfectly! She is always trying to gain Voldemort's approval and I feel like she's more complex than we see; there is never any mention about her parents so maybe she has some
issues with them? Of course, I also love the twins! They're probably the funniest two people in existence. I also really like, in no particular order, Snape, Dumbledore, Lucius, Sirius, Luna, Neville, Voldemort, Mad-Eye, Tonks, Dobby, Molly, Cedric, (in the movie, I hate to admit, I thought he was quite attractive!), Hagrid, Hedwig, and the list goes on until all the characters in the series have been named!

I want to know now, who your favorite characters are from the book and/or movies. If there are enough people voting for the same people I'll make a graph of favorite characters so that we can see our own stats! So let me know what characters are your favorites.

Welcome!

Welcome to Muggles 'R Us! This blog will be devoted to discussing all things Harry Potter: books, movies, characters; the whole shebang! Through posts I hope to initiate and continue good discussions about our beloved Potter world.  The question I am choosing to start with is probably one of the most basic ones of all: Which book and/or movie did you like the most?

For me it is super hard to choose favorites, but I do know I've read the seventh book the most and I think the fith movie was the worst, but still really good, of course.
